Welcome Letter from the President

Welcome to Vea University!

                                       Dear Prospective Student,

We are grateful to the Lord that you have a burden for entering some facet of the Lord's

work, and are considering Vea University. As an institution focused on training people

for the ministry, the words of the Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 2:24-25 become our marching

orders: "And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach,

patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant the

repentance, so that they may know the truth."

As the acronym formed from the Latin veritas, Hebrew emet and Greek aletheia, all meaning "truth," Vea is an appropriate name for our theological institution as it speaks of the process and product of theological education. Our Lord said: "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32).  Here we see the process—knowing the truth—as the first part of the equation. This truth that transforms us is based both on the facts of who Jesus is, and on His teaching of that truth. The product that develops from knowing the truth is freedom. That freedom refers both to freedom from the power of sin, and also freedom to discern truth from error.

That is our goal at Vea University—equipping you to know the truth contained in the Scriptures in order that you can discern and disseminate the truth to others. Psalm 119:104 affirms: "Through Your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way."

Accordingly, we at Vea University first of all affirm Reformed Theology as articulated in the Reformed confessions of faith.  We are here to serve the Church by training God’s agents of hope to shine the light of truth in a dark world.

We are committed to providing our students the tools to sow the Gospel throughout the world, which means training in how to present the truth in a multi-cultural context.

In all of this, we want to remember that the truth must first transform each of us individually.  At Vea, the whole person is being trained to present the truth.  Thus, we look forward to assisting you in your quest to serve the Lord of Glory in this privotal hour in human history.  We would love to talk with you in person or on the phone and discuss how we can assist you in meeting your educational goals.

May God bless you richly,

Dr. H. Ronald Vandermey, Th.M., D.R.E.

President
